A “devastated” Arizona news anchor tearfully announced the sudden death of her “beloved” colleague live on air Monday.
Ana Orsini, the morning anchor for Tucson-based CBS affiliate 13 News, passed away last week at just 28 years old after suffering a brain aneurysm, according to KOLD-TV.
The broadcaster’s co-workers, Tyler Butler and Carsyn Currier, announced her death during an emotional newscast on Monday.
“Anna was here at 13 News since June of 2023 and we are devastated by this loss,” Currier said with a trembling voice and tears in her eyes.
Butler gently touched Currier’s hand to comfort her as she went on to tell viewers that they both wore pink, a favorite of their late colleague, on Monday to honor Orsini.
While helping a distraught Currier, Butler added his touching tribute to Orsini.
“We had the opportunity to work with her every day and we want you to know that what you saw with her on the air, the funny and crazy person that she was — she was just like her off camera and more,” he said.
After the chilling news was revealed to the public, the station aired a highlight reel of Orsini’s short but “special” time at the station.
The reel showed clips of Orsini’s first time at the anchor desk, her love of dogs and how she playfully interacted with co-hosts on air and during live reports.
Breakfast co-hosts who worked with him every day also shared personal tributes on their social media pages.
“Getting up in the middle of the night to go to work is always challenging, but knowing I would be working with Anna made it so much easier,” Currier wrote on her Instagram page. “Whether she was dancing around the set or making us all laugh, every day with Anna was an adventure.”
“She was very young, but we can always remember her,” Butler wrote on his Facebook page.
On-air talent from other tournaments also remembered him on their social media pages.
“A shooting star. A burning soul. A firework,” evening anchor Brooke Wagner wrote on Facebook.
“My heart goes out to the Orsini family and the rest of my KOLD News 13 family. Rest in peace Ana,” weekend anchor Sean Mahoney wrote on his Facebook page.
“She was a peanut butter, M&M-loving, Ugg platform-wearing, pink-and-purple ray of sunshine that sounds like Stanley, even at 4:00 a.m.,” according to a statement on her website. KOLD-TV. .
Colleagues also shared how rescue animals were her “passion” and she always tried to find a new home for an animal in need.
The Colorado native attended the University of Arizona before transferring to Texas A&M, where she graduated in 2018 with a degree in journalism and a double major in communications and sports management.
Orsini’s first television job was in Lubbock, Texas, as an anchor and reporter, then she spent three years as a morning and midday anchor in Medford, Oregon, before coming to KOLD-TV in June of last year.
“Anna’s friends and co-workers remember her as a person of endless empathy who always stood up for the ‘little guy,'” the statement from News 13 continued. “She was a smiling face, especially for everyone her younger and younger colleagues, and she is known throughout the newsrooms where she worked for taking them under her wing and being a strong mentor both at work and in life.”
