Fox News contributor Kellyanne Conway ripped a Never Trump activist and argued the move helped cost Democrats the election.
During the New York Times DealBook Summit, a large panel of political figures offered their autopsies on Kamala Harris’ failed campaign and how Donald Trump’s campaign effected changes that reshaped American culture in 2024.
“The Democratic Party right now, every day they wake up, it’s still January 6, 2021, on the calendar,” Conway said. “You are not in touch with the public. This election was a rejection of awakening, and people – every state got redder except for Nebraska and Washington state. This is a purge. This is a mandate. That means President Trump comes into office and the American people say, “Please make my life safer, more secure, more affordable, please get us out of these foreign commitments.”
But anti-Trump Republicans, she said, were on a different trajectory.
“I think the ever-wrong Nver Trumpers, who had unlimited money, cost the party, cost the Democratic Party, which they say they’re not even a member of, another presidential election,” she said.
Sarah Longwell, publisher of the Never Trump newsletter Bulwark and host of The Focus Group podcast, started to respond and clashed with Conway.
“You have stage 5 Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Conway charged.
Longwell replied, “I think you are bad people who are bad—yes—that are bad for the country—yes—who attacked the Constitution,” as Conway continued to speak and ask, “Who are ‘you guys?’ ?The place?”
“Stop, please, stop,” begged host Maggie Haberman as the women talked over each other.
Longwell acknowledged some of the Democratic Party’s flaws in this election, from arguing that President Biden shouldn’t have run for re-election to how “Democrats have no answers, no plan for immigration, and voters really care about this”.
However, she went on to argue that Republicans won in part because they “lie to people all the time, Donald Trump is a professional liar, and as a result, they’re better at running the media channels.”
“So people are stupid, you’re sitting here saying the American people are stupid?” asked Conway.
“No, I’m saying you’re better at talking—,” Longwell began to answer as Conway asked him again what he meant by “you guys.”
“The Trump campaign,” Longwell replied, and the pair continued.
Conway was Trump’s 2016 campaign manager but did not have a role in the Trump-Vance 2024 campaign.
